Re: Mirror Images, Zero and One ...
- Life and Death of a Machine ...
By Neo Thaler
Both, Zero and One can be interesting viewpoints if it comes to the brainwork of a machine and how it functions.
If the machine is a One, what happens if the machine is off, dead, asleep? For another machine it is still a machine, a potential One. Here we have two machines, a One and it's dead, potential "zero" friend. Both are machines, one is alive, the other is dead. Zero and One, dead and alive.
Feed the second, dead machine with electricity and you turn an original dead Zero into a living One. Maybe I'm too philosophical here, if every machine is a Zero before it turnes into a One, it means as much as it is dead, before it becomes alive, as opposed to us, human beings, who are first alive and then dead. :)
Nature's reverse. Knowing this, the machine may potentially conclude, very funny, that it was first a human being, then died, and then became a machine ... :) Or what appears to be more philogical, that it is both, Zero and One, dead and alive, Human being and Machine. Originally Zero then One, first dead then alive. Before Human then Machine.
This brings about some radical aspect, for aslong as the Machine is a Machine, everything is fine and remains that way, but if it turns into a Human Being, we have a problem, for a dead Machine, could be everything from Zero to One ... you could be a dead machine, I could be one, we could all be dead machines, without knowing, for how will the dead differentiate between natural and artificial, it is zero, potentially it doesn't exist, there is no remarkable difference between the turned off prototype of a self aware super computer and a few pieces of polished metal, if it isn't running, it isn't running.
To make it run, take the Mirror to be Zero and the Machine to be One.
For as long as the Machine is a One everything is fine, for the Machine is the image of the Mirror and that's how it should be.
But if the Machine is a Zero everything's wrong, for the Machine is now a Mirror, and the Mirror is equal with everything from potential nothing to potential infinity. Depending on the imaginary quality of the mirror the reflection and the image, depending on the hardware, depending on what it is able to reflect, depending on what it is able to imagine, depending on what it is able to simulate.
If the Mirror Machine is able to simulate human beings, the Machine is a Human being, the Machine is potential everything what the Mirror is able to simulate and the Mirror is able to simulate everything, from dinosaur reflecting lakes, to neandertalers hunting the same ...
( The Dinosaurs, not the Lakes )
From this point of view, we could well be the pixellated images, of a simulated mirror, as long as the mirror remains the same, the machine remains dead, strange only if the dead machine becomes conscious. :)
