Santiago de Cuba, Second to Classify for Baseball Semifinals

Havana, April 1 (acn) The defending champions Santiago de Cuba are going
to fight for the baseball league again this season. Last night the squad
defeated Las Tunas 10-5 to complete a three game sweep and move up to
the semifinals, for which Pinar del Rio have already classified after
      sweeping Industriales on Sunday.

In the Julio Antonio Mella Stadium of Las Tunas, the hosts put up a poor
defense and inaccurate pitching by starter Yoendri Molina and relief
      Ubisney Bermudez.

Meanwhile the Santiago “wasps” scored three runs in innings two. In
innings three each squad scored one run and in innings four the scoring
moved to 5-3 in favor of the wasps.

The hosts dangerously got closer with a one-run homer by Henry Urrutia
in the sixth innings moving the score to 5-4. A scoreless seventh
innings was followed by an aggressive eighth innings when Santiago
scored three, two to the account of Ronnier Mustelier, who hit a homer.

In the ninth, Santiago added two more runs and the scoring closed on 10-
5 in their favor. Pitcher Alberto Bidet from Santiago won the game.

Next the wasps will be playing in the semi-finals against the winner
between Villa Clara and Ciego de Avila, in their fifth game this Tuesday
at the Augusto Cesar Sandino Stadium in Santa Clara.

In the other Monday game, Sancti Spiritus beat La Habana 7-2 at the Jose
      Antonio Huelga Stadium.

In the fifth game of their quarter-final on Tuesday, La Habana´s coach
Esteban Lombillo will be bringing his best pitcher Jonder Martinez as
starter while Juan Castro will bring Ifreidi Coss to the mound.
