Puerto Rican Newspapers Highlight Silvio's Performance in San Juan

HAVANA, Cuba, June 1 (acn) Media outlets in Puerto Rico highlighted
the concert offered by Cuban singer-songwriter Silvio Rodriguez on
Sunday in San Juan, the country's capital.

The two newspapers with the largest circulation in that nation
reported the event with eloquent headlines. El Nuevo Dia showed a
picture of the troubadour on its front page and, on top of it, these
words: "Incandescent Silvio". And Primera Hora headed its report
with: "Grateful and Full of Solidarity," the Granma newspaper reports
      on Tuesday.

The some 10,000 people gathered at the Jose Miguel Agrelot Colisum
made the messages conveyed by the artist their own -messages of
freedom, justice and love, in the 24 songs he performed.

Silvio especially dedicated the piece "Escaramujo" to the Puerto
Rican students now on strike, preceded by a commentary: "Education is
not a business; to you, who're making sacrifices, goes this song."

The Cuban artist read fragments from a letter written by celebrated
US actor Danny Glover two years ago, on which he expressed his
solidarity with the five antiterrorist fighters unfairly incarcerated
      in the United States.

He also shared the stage with Puerto Ricans Roy Brown and Zoraida
Santiago, who recalled Carlos Muñiz Varela, Chagui Mari Pesquera and
Filiberto Ojeda –all the victims of political assassinations- with
      their singing.

At the end of the concert, Silvio dedicated the song "La era está
pariendo un corazón", to popular Puerto Rican actor Benicio del Toro
–present in the audience-, who played the role of Ernesto (Che)
Guevara in movies directed by US filmmaker Steven Soderbergh.
