Reminder from: Crosley Yahoo! Group Title: 1949: 'GALS' GET MORE MILEAGE Date: Sunday May 26, 2013 Time: 12:00 am - 12:00 am (GMT) Greenwich Mean Time - Dublin / Edinburgh / Lisbon / London Location: Oakland Tribune article, Crosley Car Owners Club (CCOC), 4526 29th Avenue, Kenosha WI 53140, (262) 652-3034 Notes: CINCINNATI, May 26 (UP) Women drivers get more mileage per gallon out of an automobile than men because they are more inclined to drive within a speed range of 20 to 40 miles an hour, where an auto's best mileage is attained.
Commenting on the tendency of male operators to drive at erratic
speeds and "punish" the accelerator, Powel Crosley Jr. said those faults can cut auto efficiency as much as 40 percent.
The Crosley Motors head cited industry tests showing that a heavy car which gets 20 miles per gallon at a speed of 30 miles an hour usually gets only 14 at 60.
Corresponding tests of lightweight cars, he said, show 40 miles per gallon at a steady pace of 30 miles an hour and 30 miles per hour at mile-a-minute speed.
