The 52nd Run To Brighton driving tour will be Nov. 4, 2012 beginning in Rolling Meadows, Ill., and ending in Brighton, Kenosha County Hwy. X just south of WI 42. Last year I drove the '42 CB-42 Liberty Sedan there.
The sponsoring Waukegan-North Shore Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America says this will be the last Run open to the public. Only AACA members will be allowed in the future.
Members pay $7 per vehicle; non-members pay $10 per vehicle. Participants are encouraged to drive antique or classic cars, but any vehicle can be used.
Participants meet at 9 a.m. Nov. 4 at McDonald’s, 3140 Kirchoff Road, Rolling Meadows IL, and depart at 10 a.m., stopping at either Jeddy’s restaurant, 1660 240th Ave., or St. Francis Xavier Church, 1704 240th Ave., for lunch. The meal is $11, paid at the door.
Participants can contact Cheri or Jack Runnfeldt at 847-949-0517 for more information.
About a half-century ago, an AACA chapter member wanted to organize a group tour based on the yearly run in England from London to Brighton on the English Channel. The first overseas tour in 1927 celebrated the 1896 decision to kick up vehicle speed limits from 4 mph to 14 mph.
He got out a map and discovered there was a nearby Brighton, in Kenosha County, and it became the local tour’s destination point.
