15th 'Christmas at the Crosley' a hit.
- View SourceThe 15th annual "Holidays at the Crosley" was bigger than ever and an immense success. It ran through Dec. 7, hosted by the Crosley Estate Foundation, proceeds helping with the continued restoration of Powel Crosley's Mediterranean-Revival 21-room Seagate, "the Jewel on Sarasota Bay" built in 1929 at 8374 N. Tamiami Train in Sarasota, plus the carriage house, grounds and shoreline. For the first time, the restored Carriage House was opened. There were dozens of decorated trees, wreaths and vignettes done by professional designers, and Florida-area members parked their cars and lent Crosley radios to be displayed near the vintage room-sized model trains and gingerbread village. (Check 'New Photos'.)
Entertainment by local schools and groups included the Park Chorale of University Park, Booker Middle School, Jennie Moen and Kinnan Elementary School plus two daily afternoon teas and Christmas performances by the Manatee Players' musical "A Crosley Christmas" daily.
Sarasota Bay boat rides on the catamaran 'Kathleen D' offered tours of local landmarks, homes and Florida marine life for $8 a person. The Floating Chapel was docked for tours; see www.weddingsonwater.com for details.
