City spent money on projects other than lake cleanup

The contamination at Springwood Lake and the ball field area came from two sources. Both originated from at least as far back as the 1950s, or even sooner.

The lead contamination came from the Trap Shooting Club that was there for many decades. That contamination was surface mined to an unknown depth and an unknown number of tons of lead shot was removed and new top soil was applied.

If contamination is showing up again, I guess it's like a farmer's field where stones come floating up every year.

The other contamination came from industrial pollutants which washed down from the old Crosley, Perfect Circle (Dana), ALCOA and maybe Belden, from up above the railroad and on down the natural drainage of the land into the Springwood Lake.

The lake contamination has been allowed to exist because the city of Richmond has twice received government funding to help clean the lake, but Richmond spent the money on other projects instead of where the money was supposed to be spent.

Wouldn't you call that "misappropriation of funds?"

      Jack Jenkins,

      Richmond
