      Tim,
My 1952  SS lacks a bird on the hood and any evidence of a hole that might have previously held one.
I think the bird was a dealer installed duck.

But, a discussion here on our thread a few years ago found deviations in the theme.

My Hot Shot as seen in the  "When They Were Old" section of our gang site has the picture was taken in aprox 1950, misses the front of the hood as seen in the pic. I had a recollection the bird was on the front and the locking key on the back.  I was corrected by one of our members who advised the lock was on the front of the hood panel on Hot Shots and moved to the rear when the SS was produced. This seems to be reinforced by any SS I've ever seen since.

Another old picture witnessed is the picture of Julie and I somewhere in1959 fails to show any thing firm.  Well,     nothing firm but her 16 year old body.

I can't fathom how my first HS might have been morphed unless the picture would have been taken later than 1949 or 50, when a later hood had been swapped with an SS somehow.
         Butt, I don't think so.

Judging from my sister appearance, aunt's and uncle's pictures and how old my Sis might have been was the challenge for me.  This snapshot must not have been later than1950.

        Conclusion;   I dunno

Yes- running gear is the same on Hot Shots and Super Sports.  The Super Sports was basically a Hot Shot with doors, a folding (rather than removable) top and a big chrome bird on the nose.
That said, Super Sports could be ordered with a performance system ('vita meter' i think), but that is pretty rare. --- On Wed, 7/20/11, captainos2 <captainos2@...> wrote:
