      Powel Crosley, Jr. Was
      inspired to become an
      automaker by the very
      first automobile he saw.
      The vehicle happened to
      be in his hometown of
      Cincinnati in 1898.
Just 12 years old at the
      time, he enlisted the aid
      of his brother, Lewis, to
      build an electric-powered
      wagon in emulation of the
      marvel he had just seen.
      But this did not satisfy
      him; for the next four
      decades, Crosley would
      dream of becoming an
      automobile manufacturer.
      And indeed he would plan
      his life with that goal
      in mind.
      "The only reason he
      became rich", Lewis often
      said, "was so he could
      build automobiles."
