  • Sounds like an unexpectedly great idea! Question: What do they (you?) mean by "passports"? US and Canadian passports? What authority would they have to do _anything_ with them? I doubt that the US embassy would give up power like that. Or do they mean Cedulas? Like renewals for example. That would really be fabulous. ------------------ Perplexed (but hopeful) Paul in San Antonio...

  • Kate wrote: Are there any more recommendations? ====================================== Kate, I can;t tell for sure from your post, but if you are looking for a reliable Tax Preparer for the IRS... then I'm happy to recommend Randy Lindner of Escazu (more or less in back of Sarettos). Phone: 288 - 2201 I've used him for several years and have always found him to be competent...

  • Hello, good CRLers, Once again, I turn to you for a solution to a "problemita." It probably will require some out-of-the-box thinking. PROBLEMITA: My good wife, Becky, insists that I am hearing impaired. Thus I can't hear the tick-tick of the turn signal in our Kia, and she constantly has to tell me to turn it off. So, I've tried to find a device that would allow me to adjust the...

  • Frederick Clark wrote: I have just started using Skype and find that the calls often get dropped. Has anyone else experienced this? Fred, I tried Skype for awhile with an ISDN setup (ICE) and got dropped all the time. I recently was overjoyed to hear that ICE would be offering ADSL to my neighborhood very soon, so I could use Skype again....... but after reading your post, I am...

  • May I post an addendum to Christopher Howard's post about the use of 'tu' and 'usted'....? He wrote... /First, "tĂș" (you singular form) is used almost exclusively when talking to one's immediate family, to children, to animals and above all to close friends. / True, according to every Spanish Text you will ever find. But...... it /is/ different in Costa Rica, and it confused me...

  • Tim..... I have a KX - P1180 Panasonic dot matrix multi-mode ribbon-type printer that might serve your needs. It's at least 15 years old. I love it and I'd keep it myself, but I can't find the driver for it. (No, the online ones don't work either.) Even my local techie-genius was baffled by it. Maybe you would have better luck. I can let you have it for the low, low once-in-a...

  • I think a lot of the negative reputation of the Correo is a holdover from the past, when it was richly deserved. If I remember correctly, in approx. 1995, the entire correo system was revamped which resulted in the dismissal of about 600 employees for theft (whole bags were found in private homes)! Since then, We have had no trouble at all. By the way, we tried Aerocasillas back...

  • Hey, Jon I recently bought a ticket from American Airlines, so I thought that would be the best place to inquire. Here's the breakdown of charges, SJO to MIA and back. FARE USD 238.00 Tax CR 18.40 Tax US 30.20 Tax XT 159.72 !!!!! TOTAL USD 446.32 I, too, am baffled by what _seems_ to be multi-layered terror-taxes But that's what they told me, "$75 for each enplanement." I didn't...
