  • *All* vehicles will have water exiting the tailpipe. It's a product of the combustion process. A big problem with flood vehicles is corrosion of the wiring, eventually. Kurt [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

  • We went to Panama /Paso Canoas last week for a new visa stamp. Yes, we had to pay the $7 at the bank at the border. Panama asked to see the exit ticket (but not proof of $). Stayed for lunch - 2 hours - and came right back. No issues, but had to have a ticket for CR too. Kurt [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

  • Are there flea markets or anything similar to them in CR? Antique stores? I haven't seen either so far, just Compra Vende's, and haven't seen anything interesting in those stores.... Thanks! Kurt in Turrialba [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

  • Thanks Berni for the great info. Anyone have lodging info / experience in the area? I emailed them via their site but haven't heard back. And the soda in Boruca is still open? Thanks! Kurt

  • We plan to visit Boruca on the way to Corcovado. We have 2 kids, 9 & 11. I see that you can homestay in the community - anyone have experience or knowledge of this? I see there's also a place in Terraba to stay. We know some about the crafts - are there other specific sights / activities or is it more just enjoy the culture? We have a RAV4 and I assume we can drive in from the...

  • Does the change in the exchange rate affect car prices in colones? That is, is there inflation in car prices? Or another way of looking at it: are cars valued in dollars or colones? Thanks! Kurt (who will be selling a RAV4 in the near future)

  • CR may have a high literacy rate, but our experience is the public schools are behind the US. They just told my 6th grader that she needs to know her multiplication tables to 6. Um, she knew those in 4th grade. And my 4th grader is doing addition and subtraction that she did in 2nd. Science is behind too. Lots of memorize and regurgitate.learning. And the high school (not all) only...

  • Panama asked for the airplane ticket like it was as important/expected as the passport. This was at Sixaola. CR asked for a ticket the same way (at Canoas). I don't think either would have let us thru without.

  • Can you use a Claro (CR) phone/chip in Panama? Is there any advantage cause it's a Claro phone (and Claro is available in Panama) or is it just as easy to go buy a Claro chip when we get to Panama? We currently have Kolbi, btw. Thanks! Kurt
