solving the following problem
My wife (here in Costa Rica) would like to be able to communicate with
her sister (in Florida) via a chat-room setup. Her sister uses AOL
and tells me there is an instant e-mail service available. I take
that to mean that it differs from the ordinary chat-room, in that it
would be totally private. Essentially just like e-mail, except that
they would be able to exchange typed messages interactively in real
time. No selecting servers, no interaction with strangers, no avatars,
Any insights? Thanx in advance.

Hi Paul, Hi All,
AOL and the Chat room:
I am not too firm in Chatting, since I do not use this function, but, installing any later version of Netscape Commander or Communicator (3.0 upwards) will automatically install AOL’s “Instant Messenger” on your disk.
Open the AOL part, see what they have to offer, or what you have to do to run it, and there you go – hopefully.
To chat with non AOL-users, please check if you have “Microsoft Chat” installed on you machine. Go to “Control Panel”, open “Add/Remove Programs”, open “Windows Setup”, double click on “Communications” and check if “Microsoft Chat” is enabled.
While you are in the “Add/Remove Programs” window, check if you can find any obsolete programs which can be safely deleted / removed. It unclutters the whole system.
Please keep in mind that at all times, while chatting, you are connected to RACSA via ICE! Click, $, click, $, click…
This is for all you MS Outlook (not Express!) users:
I’ve noticed, that checking the mail (F5 or click on “Send /Receive”) in the “Outlook Today” windows produces less connection errors! Usually I had the mail checked, while being in the Inbox folder.
Also, minimize / hide the connection window while checking the mail. It gives more power to the modem and therefore to the people, by reducing the load on the machine’s memory!
P.S.: did you notice? Zis waz zhe Spanish lesson for today, Sunday. Ja?
