Every hospital I have ever been in in Costa Rica had a bed/couch
thing in the room for family members. It is common practice here. I
have been in CIMA, Clinica Biblica and Clinica Catolica. Everyone had
a bed of some sort for family members and as I recall they actually
LET family members and friends use them.

WhenI was at Clinica Catolica, friends arrived late at night, as I
was pretty sick and they stayed there on that couch sleeping the rest
of the night, no one said a word. In Clinica Biblica my friend spent
the night on the sofa bed as well, kind of holding my hand through a
      surgical recovery.

I think is a beautiful thing that health is seen as a family affair
and not just you and some specialist or specialists with your medical
      relationship.

I would alwasy confirm such things, but in my experience it is common
      practice here.

      Hugs,
      Robbie
