- Feb 1, 2010i went through the biggest quake -- 9.2 Alaska. some of the people i knew were killed because of what Copp described -- pancaking of houses, cars, etc. whether he's been discredited or not, his advice makes more sense to me, after having survived that quake, than that duck and cover routine, or standing in a doorway. and when the quake is larger than a little rattle of 4, 5, or 6, you first instinct is to run like hell away from crashing debris and flying objects. but on the other hand, two people i know who did that were swallowed in a fissure -- one friend lost a leg, and his wife was cut completely in half when the fissure closed. ugh.
