      Comet Observations 5th to 7th March 2013

      C/2011 L4 PANSTARRS

      2013 Mar 05.395 UT; m1=1.1; Dia= --; DC= 7; 7x50B [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
Tail visible to around 1 degree in length to the SE. Slightly curved to the South, coma stellar in appearance with slight haze surrounding a white pseudo nucleus. Tail was tinged yellow in colour near the coma but faded to a more orange colour near the tip. Extinction corrected using ICQ ‘a’ table. Alt = 3.0 deg, twilight affected. Observing site 963m.
Comparison stars checked using Tycho-2 data in Guide 9.0; Method= M; Cat= TK

      2013 Mar 06.395 UT; m1=1.8; Dia= --; DC= 8; 7x50B [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
Tail to SE, 1.5 degrees in length. Twilight affected, Alt= 1.9 degrees, extinction corrected using ICQ ‘w’ table. The central condensation appears white through 7x50 B’s but deep yellow / reddish in colour using 11x70 B’s. Observing site 910m.
Comparison stars checked using Tycho-2 data in Guide 9.0; Method= M; Cat= TK

      2013 Mar 07.388 UT; m1=1.6; Dia= --; DC= 7/8; 7x50B [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
Tail to the SE, 1.8 degrees in length, twilight affected, 3.8 degrees altitude, extinction corrected using ICQ ‘a’ table.
      Observing site 1085m.

      2013 Mar 06.40 UT; m1=5.3; Dia= 10.5’; DC= 7; 7x50B [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
Tail 3.5 degrees in length to SSE, coma appears bluish in colour, tail slightly broader than the coma but with no visible structure, extinction corrected using ICQ ‘w’ table.
Comparison stars checked using Tycho-2 data in Guide 9.0; Method= M; Cat= TK

      2013 Mar 07.41 UT; m1=4.9; Dia= 10’; DC= 6/7; 7x50B [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
Tail to SE, 4 degrees in length, thin but slightly wider than coma. Extinction corrected using ICQ ‘a’ table.
Comparison stars checked using Tycho-2 data in Guide 9.0; Method= M; Cat= TK

      2013 Mar 07.43 UT; m1=4.9; Dia= 15’; DC= 6; 0.0E [Chris Wyatt, Walcha, NSW, Australia]
No tail visible, coma appears like a small fuzzy patch of light with a stellar centre, limiting magnitude = 5.7. Comet altitude 8.1 degrees, observing site 1085m. Extinction corrected using ICQ ‘a’ table.
Comparison stars checked using Tycho-2 data in Guide 9.0; Method= M; Cat= TK
