- DSPs (Digital Signal Processing) IC "chips" are a class
of advanced electronics that evolved, and are not as popularly
recognised being somewhat overshadowed by advancements in CPU chips
in the 1990s.
DSPs are no less advanced, sofisitcated and important
in the evolution of the computer/electronic revolution
in the final decades of the 20th century, that
DSPs are used in modern digital information aquistion and processing.
Particuarly in communications, entertainment, and military
applications, including radar, remote sensing, and IRST.
DSPs essentialy take raw information, gathered by sensory detection,
inn the form of video, audio, telemetry, IR, by many means of
detection, in either analog, or pre-conditioned digital form,
store it, and execute programed advanced mathematical processes on
the data, all at very, very high speeds and in usually
in "realtime". These processes, transforms the raw high
speed "Data," into much more much more usefull filtered and
processed "information", towards the designed application.
