HEARING SCHEDULED ON FEDERAL BILL TO ALLOW KILLING
      OF 94 BIRD SPECIES

H.R. 4114, "The Migratory Bird Treaty Reform Act of 2004," is
scheduled for markup in the House Resources Committee on
      Wednesday, May 5.

This dangerous legislation would end federal protection of 94
species of migratory birds--including certain species of storks,
pelicans, swans, cardinals, orioles, doves, and cranes--and we
need your help to defeat it.

      H.R. 4114 would deny long-standing protections for so-called
"non-native" migratory birds. These protections have existed
since 1916, when the U.S. entered into the first of four
international treaties to protect migratory birds.

H.R. 4114 would undermine all of the migratory bird conventions
the U.S. is currently party to, and would remove federal protection
for these species--allowing the wholesale slaughter of migratory
      birds.

Please contact your U.S. Representative today and urge him or
her to oppose H.R. 4114. Remind your legislator that the
Migratory Bird Treaty Act and international treaties were meant to
protect all species of migratory birds.

Birds cannot recognize international borders, so we should not
allow them to be slaughtered as they fly into the U.S.

All U.S. Representatives can be reached through the Capitol
      switchboard at (202) 224-3121.

PLEASE CALL YOUR U.S. REPRESENTATIVE TODAY AND
MAKE YOUR VOICE HEARD -- BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE.

      Thank you.
