The biases are also in the cooling direction because NWS "moved"
stations from downtown sites ( vegetation free areas) to airport sites
*(grass local environments) while not changing the official station
name (e.g. Minneapolis, MN). The moves occurred from the late 1930s -
1940s at many metro stations in the U.S. Instead of continuing the
records, NWS should have established the new airport sites as new
official stations. NWS and meteorologist need to stop comparing the
more recent airport site data to the old site 1930s record daily highs
which were made downtown. NWS continues to use the obsolete long-term
records and continues to mislead the public on the amount of local
warming taking place. The public continues to be mislead about the
more serious degree of warming taking place especially in urban areas
(due to both global warming and UHI).
