NCDC: Climate of 2007- May Global analysis

The global surface temperature for the combined January-May period tied with 1998 as the warmest January-May on record. Separately, the global land-surface temperature was the warmest on record for May, as well as for boreal spring (March-May) and the year-to-date period.Temperature anomalies with respect to the 1961-1990 mean for land and ocean are analyzed separately and then merged to form the global analysis.

May, 2007 was warmest May of record (1880-current) for globally average temperatures above land surfaces

      Temperature above land C , (anomaly, i.e. departure from 1961-1990 mean) +0.95C (+1.71F)

The previous warmest May of record for averaged global land temperature was May, 2005 (+0.94C/1.69F).
