PEER release causes hydrologist forbidden to go to Mall of America to speak out now

In February of 2000 NOAA National Weather Service management in Chanhassen MN forbid a hydrologist at the North Central River Forecast Center (NCRFC) from appearing at the Mall of America (MOA) as a private citizen because NOAA NWS supervisors said that the public might see the appearance by the hydrologist at the MOA, who had earlier expressed an interest in showing a poster on climate and hydrologic change in the Upper  Midwest, as somehow related to NOAA NWS positions on global warming.

That first annual Government Services Exposition for the public in 2000 at the MOA was viewed as a resounding success by NOAA NWS management.  The "success" warranted continuing the event at the MOA in the years that followed.

None of the booths run by the public agencies have even hinted that climate change, hydrologic change and global warming are happening nor have the booths provided any explanation on what greenhouse gases do for climate.

These government boondoggles will continue for many years to come because their success is measured by agency management and used in agency management annual performance appraisals.  Agency public relations people, driven by agency public affairs offices in Washington, have little or no concern for what benefits the public interest.

It didn't seem to be that way when I was hired by NWS in Feb 1976 as a hydrologist in the NWS Kansas City River Forecast Center.

The hydrologist who was forbidden to go to the MOA has been removed from government services (by NWS n Chanhassen on July 15, 2005)
