Group Description

This is a science fiction reading and discussion group that will concentrate on the "classic" novels of the genre. Generally speaking this includes novels written more than 30 years ago. Examples of authors whose work we'll explore would include Clifford Simak, Arthur C Clarke, Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, Robert Heinlein, Frank Herbert, Ira Levin, HG Wells, Walter Miller and John Wyndham, to name just a few. We'll read both hard and soft sci-fi and discuss them as a group. We'll talk about how the literary devices the author used worked for that particular novel and whether the premises the author set up are believable. We've found it particularly interesting to explore how the ideas raised in a classic novel are applicable to current issues of the day.

Each month, we have a great time nominating a new series of titles and voting on the group choice for an upcoming read! Please join us. If older sci-fi is your cup of tea, I'm sure you'll find our group most enjoyable and enlightening.

CURRENTLY READING:

October: The Still, Small Voice of Trumpets by Lloyd Biggle Jr.

November: Taking nominations
