Geraldine Catherine Fountain Massey COLUMBUS, GA
Deanie Massey, 88 of Columbus, died Friday, February 19, 2010 at her home.
Mrs. Massey was born January 9, 1922 in Tift County, GA, daughter of the
late John Fountain and Irene Smith Fountain. She lived in Columbus most of
her life. Mrs. Massey was a member of First Baptist Church for 76 years.
For over 20 of those years she taught the prekindergarten class Sunday
school. Later years were spent in the Lamp Lighters, and finally with Young
In addition to being active in her Sunday school class. Mrs. Massey
delivered Meals on Wheels for a number of years.
Mrs. Massey was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Edgar Massey,
Sr., Sisters Elizabeth Fountain Dickinson and Margaret Fountain Grubbs and
brother, John Fountain. Survivors include son John Edgar Massey, Jr.
(Kemis), nieces, Jeri Schrader, Margaret Shealy and nephews Brooks, Reese
and Raymond Massey. As much a part of her family as any of the above; long
time friends, Caroline Wills, Libber Lee, Hilda Thigpen and Martha Jones.
Visitation will be at Striffler-Hamby Monday, February 22 5:00 pm to 7:00
pm. Services will be graveside at Parkhill, Tuesday, February 23rd at 1:00
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Columbus Hospice, 7020
Moon Road, Columbus, GA 31909 or First Baptist Young at Heart.
