Group Description

Cinquain (prounounced "SING-cane"), the plural is Cinquains

The CinquainPoets Yahoo Group is for poets who write cinquains in the form as defined by Adelaide Crapsey, a five line poem with a syllable pattern of 2-4-6-8-2. Cinquains of any topic as well as discussion of cinquain-centered topics are always welcome in this group.

CinquainPoets group members also discuss and share cinquain variations such as mirror cinquains (2 stanzas of 5 lines with a 2-4-6-8-2 2-8-6-4-2 pattern), cinquain sequences (longer poems with cinquain stanzas), crown cinquains (a cinquain sequence of 5 stanzas), reverse cinquains (2-8-6-4-2 pattern), and cinquain butterflies (a mirror cinquain that has been fused together into one stanza, dropping one of the 2 syllable middle lines - i.e. 9 lines with a "hinging" 5th line).

Each month list members participate in a friendly monthly contest meant to prompt writing and focus on technique as well as exercise our cinquain voices.

Darrell Byrd currently is the contest moderator.

CinquainPoets has a "sister group", which was formed to write long collaborative cinquain sequences: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/CinquainPoetSequences

"May Dazed", the collaborative sequence written in this group during May 2005, is now available as a book from lulu.com: http://www.lulu.com/cinquainpoets
