Well goodbye the archive for sure, and hello messages from people who change to receive messages in full so they get the pictures getting full mailboxes!

Less than one week's notice does not leave time to make changes, nor is there any option offered to subscribe to preserve the way the group has functioned.

As usual Yahell have taken a decision without any consultation. It has been a good three years but is not the end of the group although membership is likely to fall I think.

If you wish to continue to receive pictures via Email then please visit the group on-line and use "Edit my membership" to make the necessary changes.

I did this four days ago and still have not received messages that I see have been posted since then, so I hope this feature will work for you.

        Best wishes

          > Oh dear. Goodbye churchpictures.

Oh Simon, I wondered why nobody put those pictures
          on an easily accessible website....
          What one need is:
          1 An own server
          2 A little technical knowledge
3 A little time, to add the coming pictures.
4 The permission of all people making pictures,
to put them on the website.

An old computer of mine had been rebuild to a
good webserver. Therefore I can add so many
pipe-organpictures, you can't imagine, so many.
The website now has a size of 240 MB, containing
pictures of more than 940 pipe-organs! (also some
musicfiles) This webserver stands in my own house......

We discovered on an artists' group that if you post photos to "Photos" Yahoo sells them, with no royalty going to the originator. Accordingly, we moved our pictues to "Files" and so far there has been no problem with Yahell using our pictures without our pernission. But it's a lot clumsier than church pictures. I often read the mesages without going to the files section to see what they are talking about. I'm really sad. I LOVED Churchpictures. But I'm not surprised. It was too good to last..---les

Um. I may be able to help with this.

As a latecomer to churchpictures I have been working through the old
traffic, and reading them offline (due to Yahoo problems and my dialup
connection from Timbuctoo, Derbyshire). So I have a reasonable chunk of the
archive saved offline, and could put them on a CD. Still a huge task to pull
down the rest of the archine between now and August 6th, but possibly
              do-able.

Having developed both CDs and websites (as others on the list must have),
              I'd look at something like:

CD incorporating images, messages posted with them, identification of
              photographer.
Some sort of front end (perhaps keyword search on names and some
              descriptions).

Some way of drawing attention to other work done by the photographers.

We are talking quite low cost archive here (I reckon around 5 ukp for a
simple front end, between 5 and 10ukp for something more complex to part
cover my costs if a reasonable proportion of listren are interested), so
              quite cheap and cheerful.

I think there about 5000-7000 images in the archive, and it would give 1
              full CD.

              This asks 3 further questions:

1 - Is anyone interested in such an archive (would you buy one).

2 - Is such a thing reasonable to do - is the group happy (Mr Phil?)

3 - Are the photographers happy for something like this to be done? Even
though Yahoo claim copyright in their Ts and Cs for everything on Yahoo
public lists, the real question is whether those who took the photos would
be happy with such a setup?

On Wim's comment, I'm not sure that photographers would want an online
archive, but that is doable but quite a large project to do properly.

Since this will take up perhaps 100 hours or more of time in toto I need
              some feedback before proceeding.

              Comments?

I'm really not surprized. It's Yahell again! Once I was moderator of
several (church and pipeorgan)groups. Each one got deleted by them.
Restart after restart. It didn't help.
Now they've got me. I gave it up and never, I repeat never want to
start a group again. Seems to be a waste of precious time.

                          Marcel.

Although I put up a lot of pictures, I almost never view them again on-line. For me, it's fun just getting to show them on line---like an old-fashioned slide show for your friends. They never wanted to come over again to see your slides a second time, even with a meal included. I usually save or forward them as they come in, so I can clear them as fast as I can. I don't really have any use for archived images. So I wouldn't need such a CD.---Les

                            Comments?

It doesn't bother me one way or the other, but DD may decide he'd rather not
have his included - he should be back from Lincolnshire this week.

DD only puts up a sampling anyway. But before cp, he always had a few in files. We ll just have to go back to the old ways, before CP, if you can remember

DD only puts up a sampling anyway. But before cp, he always had a few in files. We'll just have to go back to the old ways, before CP, if you can remember that far back.--_les
