36Re: questions from brother steve
- Sep 27, 2009Steve,
You asked about requirements to join The Church of the Firstborn
Westwood. Since the Church is a continuation of the Church of
the Firstborn founded at Kirtland in 1836, anyone with a valid
2nd anointing [or a valid J.C. Bennet style patriarchal anointing]
is already an unofficial member.
The standards of worthiness for membership and/or receipt of additional ordinances
are acknowledgment of the presiding Keyholder, obedience to the
various laws covenanted in the 1st Endowment. The person must
be magnifying his calling and seeking deeper and deeper into
the mysteries of God.
If the person has received the Kingly grades of Priesthood he has further obligations
including the Oath and Covenant of the Priesthood.
Assuming he has a valid baptism, if a person wishes to join the Church as an official member
he need only send an email with a biography requesting his name
be entered as an official member. If feasible we will make
personal contact and interview the prospective member.
This church does not have a creed one has to adhere to. As
the prophet Joseph said:
I [do] not like the old man being called up for erring in doctrine. It looks too much like the Methodists, and not like the Latter-day Saints. Methodists have creeds which a man must believe or be kicked out of their church. I want the liberty of thinking and believing as I please. It feels so good not to be trammelled. It does not prove that a man is not a good man because he errs in doctrine.17 "History of Joseph Smith" Latter-day saints Millennial Star XX (1858)
774; DHC 5:340.
Notwithstanding this all male members over 30 are asked to express
their willingness to enter into plural marriage on their own
responsibility should the Lord reveal this path for them. The
Church itself does not sponsor plural marriage leaving that
mission to the Priesthood underground.
Willingness or obedience to Plural marriage (the law of abraham) is required to get back to our progenitor in the Priesthood Abraham, obedience to the law of consecration is required to get back to Enoch. It is required to be sealed to these and other dispensation
heads by the ordinance of adoption through one of Joseph's lines
as Alvin R. Dyer explains sealing is involvement in laws as well
as blood line sealing.
"You will notice that when Moroni appeared to the Prophet Joseph Smith, he
said that the priesthood of Elijah would be revealed which would turn the
hearts of the fathers to the children and the children to the fathers. Now
if you want to take the time to analyze that prophecy in Malachi, it is
precisely the very thing we are talking about. We will become associated
with the teachings of all the fathers from the beginning. Now how does that
apply? Well, for example, take the law of consecration. That is what
father (Enoch) would teach us. In other words we would become bound to the
Patriarch Enoch through the involvement of the law of consecration. Take
for further example the keys given to Abraham, which have to do with
receiving the gospel and having the leaven of the the house of Israel spread
unto other people, and particularly unto the gentiles. ...The keys of
salvation which Adam holds, for example, require us to understand and be
obedient [the law of obedience and sacrifice] in order to be sealed to Adam.
Sealing means involvement, or living by or making a covenant concerning the
laws or the principles which he taught or was called upon to give unto his
children. So when you say that the children will be turned to the fathers
and the fathers to the children, you see, it is more than just a direct
blood-line descent. It means all of the fathers in the Priesthood and
involvement with the various keys and powers of the Patriarchal order as I
[Of course one of the neglected laws of the Patriarchal order is the
dispensation of the Gospel of Abraham or plural marriage as I (RL)
In Brigham Young's 2nd Anointing blessing:
"I seal upon you all the blessings of thy Progenitors Even Abraham, Isaac, &
Jacob & even as Far back as the Priesthood [goes]."
Oct 1840 J.S. the prophet(wjs p. 39):
[Adam]the great and grand progenitor of whom it is said in another place he
is Michael because he was the first and father of all, _not only by
progeny_, but he was the first to hold the spiritual blessings."
"Adam holds the keys of the dispensation of the fulness of times...Paul
speaks of the Church coming to an innumerable company of Angels, to God the
Judge of all, the spirits of Just men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of
the New Covenant, &c. Heb XII"
It is necessary that we be taught by these characters. Sealing then as I
understand it means communication an opening of the heavens either by open
vision or spiritual communication in which these characters speak to our
spirit independent of its connection with the mortal body. Brigham Young
says [in the JD] that when our bodies are asleep our minds are as active as
when we are awake. Our spirits can leave our bodies to visit distant
friends [or to be taught by Angels and former heads of dispensations].
Hope this helps (see the earlier message for the answers to your
