      SECOND-HAND ROSE
Seven years ago, Chinese rock singer, Liang Long, began wearing
women's clothing, layering folk instruments over electric guitars,
lampooning society's stock characters, and it caught on! Today
SECOND-HAND ROSE is one of the busiest rock acts in China. Having
played China's premiere music festivals, sold out China's major
venues, and circulated over half a dozen music videos on China's
television networks, SECOND-HAND ROSE now makes the U.S. debut of
their cross-dressing rock 'n' roll spectacle in NYC, thanks to the
support of the 2007 Asian Contemporary Arts Fair (open November 8-12,
2007 at Pier 92). Come see a sight and hear a sound that few Americans
know of China. The most flamboyant quarter of the burgeoning Chinese
rock music scene is presented for your aural delight this late Friday
      night!

      ZEN w/Submerged
Iconoclastic communist (ir)reverence, confused sexual theory, choppy
ballads over lush beats, foolhardy Taoist shock therapy – all these
are the modes of ZEN. In 2002 Beijing visual artist and Chinese rock
music pioneer, Fang Ke, arrived in the United States, and bassist
Liang Wei soon followed. Together in NYC they have been methodically
constructing 'Zen Rock' as a means of plying American culture with
Chinese values. Applying digital synchronization to rock 'n' roll
chaos, ZEN's sound is 2 parts musique concrete and 1 part dirty beats.
ZEN's latest comrade is Brooklyn's defiant laptop resistance expert
      and Laswellian satellite: Submerged.
