meditation. We hope you will be blessed. Thank you

The guarded tomb
"The next day, that is, after the day of Preparation, thechief priests and the Pharisees gathered before Pilateand said, 'Sir, we remember what that impostor saidwhile he was still alive, "After three days I will riseagain." Therefore command that the tomb be madesecure until the third day; otherwise his disciples maygo and steal him away, and tell the people, "He hasbeen raised from the dead", and the last deceptionwould be worse than the first.' Pilate said to them,'You have a guard of soldiers; go, make it as secureas you can.' So they went with the guard and madethe tomb secure by sealing the stone."
I wonder what Pilate was actually thinking. Did heregret his previous weakness when he allowed thesehostile religious leaders to influence his decision? These fanatic leaders were determined to eliminateJesus in death as well as in life. Was Pilate wearyof these religious leaders who refused to be pacified?Perhaps it was just easier to cave in to their demandsyet again and secure the tomb as they wished with anarmed guard. This probably seemed a small thingafter such a horrific act of condemning an innocentman to death. Pilate now had to live with the consequences of his actions.
What is truth? Pilate's earlier musings are ours. Whois the deceiver and who the deceived? What deceivesus today under the guise of religious purity and zealotry? The insistent religious leaders went and made the tombas secure as they knew how. They sealed the tomb andposted an armed Roman guard. They did their best tohold Jesus in the grave.
Where am I in today's story, God? Has religious zealotryblinded me to the spirit of Christ? Or have I been Pilate, condoning religious violence because it was too difficultto stand for justice? Amen.
Grace and peace,
