Group Description

Classifying chemical hazards correctly is the initial prescriptive part of our chemical control regulations in Australia and the world. Problems regularly occur in classification between companies within Australia and around the world.

The obvious consequences of misclassification and/or delays while classification issues are resolved are:

* Direct commercial cost of the misclassification and/or delay.

* Threat to personal safety and/or to the environment.

* Threat of litigation and possible insurance problems.

* Confusion for users of products who must cope with more than one classification.

This forum is to discuss workplace hazard, dangerous goods and environmental hazard classification issues.

It has two key purposes: to help members of the Network resolve their classification issues, and to help make input to / liase with authorities where policies / codes / standards/ practices need to be created or improved.

This Yahoo Group Listserv will keep a database of classification issues / information, plus provide a worldwide online forum for discussion.

NOTE 1: Make sure you set your default to use the email address you normally use otherwise yahoo will also set you up with a yahoo email address (and you won't know emails have been sent to you). To use your own email address will require you to enter it and then go through a yahoo validation process for it.

NOTE 2: When you join please send an email about yourself for the moderator to check over so you can join this group; and then later send another email to the group with your name, some information about yourself, something about your interest in Chemical Hazard Classification, and which City/Country you come from.
