Subject: [CentralTexasGeocachers] updated spud scores and modifications to the rules

      Another spudley update:

As a temporary patch for my web server problem, you can visit the Austin Geo-Hot Potato page here < http://d3885145.u50.infinology.com/hotpotato/index.htm> and see the current scores here < http://d3885145.u50.infinology.com/hotpotato/status.htm>.  I’ve included these links at the bottom of the bug description page (right before the logs).  They have updated scores and modified rules (see more below).

Also, after much contemplation, I’ve decided to modify some of the rules of the game regarding movement so as to deter potential “leap-frogging” abuse. Hopefully these will patch up some loopholes while still keeping it fun. Changes are in bold (and are reflected on the Rules page).

      Rule #6 “Restrictions on movement”

The hot potato may be moved to any geocache within 5 miles of the current cache in which it resides. Distances are "as the crow flies," and are determined by the travel bug log page ("Traveled 5.00 miles" or less) or by determination of the referee. One player may never make two consecutive moves.  Either team (Yuppies or Bubbas) can make two consecutive moves but they must wait at least 4 hours from the time their team logs their placement before they can physically retrieve the bug from the cache they just placed it in.  However, a member of the opposing team (the non-spud-placing team) can pick up the spud immediately, even before the other team has logged it.

Example: Team Yuppie puts the spud in Charlie’s Greenbelt Cache at 1 PM and they log it at 2 PM; they must wait at least 4 hours (until 6 PM) before they can physically retrieve it again (and it can’t be the same user who placed it). However, Team Bubba can pick it up immediately, even before it has been logged by Team Yuppie.

      Rule #7 “Logging placement”

After each move, the hot potato should be logged INTO a new cache within 6 hours of placement.  Either team must have the Mr. Hot Potato Head travel bug logged on the website no later than 30 hours after it has been picked up (or penalties may occur).  This effectively means it must be placed within 24 hours of pickup.  Logs must include the exact time when the log is being made (not the time when the hot potato was placed), because that is when the point timer starts.
