Re: [CentralTexasGeocachers] Re: Sometimes Island caches -- get out th ere soon!
- There's a website with the lake level as well.... http://travis.uslakes.info/Level.aspI googled it from my smartphone when we were guesstimating the depths.... so at 630.82 feet the crossing is 3 or so feet deep. If it drops to 627 or even 628, easy splash across.....Had it not been so chilly, we would have gone for it.... but hypothermia doesn't mix with caching. So much for 'Once in a While' Penninsula. (But I'd rather have the water!)

We had considered trying to get out onto Sometimes Islands on Saturday, but changed our minds when the gate-keeper told us about the depth at that point. He said it was likely that the levels will continue to vary, sometimes being lower. He gave us a business card with a number we could call to check levels. Don' t have the card in hand, but if anyone is interested in getting it, please let me know and I'll post it.-- Vicki / FG2 in FiedoGangOn Mon, Feb 27, 2012 at 17:02, wearegaughen <brendanisgone@...> wrote:
As of today (Feb 27) the water is at least waist high. Upon crossing over it was up to the top of my stomach but I found a slightly shallower way back, where the water only came up to my waist. I'm 5'9" so it's a good three feet deep, meaning it's risen two feet in the last week. It seems to not be as deep on the more northerly side of the crossing.
But hurry! The longer you wait the more difficult these are going to be.
