Subject: [WOBCP] "Rumors" opens January 7, plus auditions for "Proof"

"Rumors" opens next Friday, followed by auditions for "Proof" on the following Monday.
We are also now selling beer and wine before the show and during intermission.

Way Off Broadway Community Players continues our 14th season in our
brand new theater in the 2243 Business Park, with the comedy

"Rumors" by Neil Simon, directed by Christien Bumpus,

Performances will run Fridays and Saturdays from January 7th through 29th
at 8 PM.  There will be one Sunday performance on January 16th at 3PM

At a large, tastefully appointed Sneden's Landing townhouse, where friends are beginning
to gather to celebrate the 10th wedding anniversary for Charley (the Deputy Mayor of New
York) and his wife Myra, Charley has just shot himself. Although he’s only suffered a flesh
wound, four couples are about to experience a severe attack of Farce. As the time for the
rest of his guests to appear approaches, the host lies bleeding in the other room and his
wife is nowhere in sight. His lawyer, Ken and Ken’s wife must get "the story" straight
before the other guests arrive. Due to the rapidly mounting confusion and miscommunications,
the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

On the eve of her birthday, Catherine, a troubled young woman, has spent years caring
for her brilliant but unstable father, a famous mathematician.  Now, following his death,
      she must deal with her own volatile emotions; the arrival of her estranged sister, Claire;
and the attentions of Hal, a former student of her father's who hopes to find valuable
work in the 103 notebooks that her father left behind.  Over the long weekend that follows
certain events such as a burgeoning romance, flashbacks of her father and the discovery
of a mysterious notebook combine to draw Catherine into the most difficult problem of
all: How much of her father's madness - or genius - will she inherit?  Winner of the 2001
Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play, Proof "...combines elements of mystery and
surprise with old-fashioned storytelling to provide a compelling evening of theatre...[Proof
is a] smart and compassionate play of ideas."
