Group Description

The CSU Students of San Jose group is an independent advocacy and networking group for MBA and other students, and all recent graduates of CSU | San Jose State, the oldest California State University campus. The purpose of this group is to (1) promote mutual support and networking among San Jose graduates, students and alumni, and (2) foster communication about how to continually improve the University, its image and reputation, and the prospects of its graduates. Based on a group vote, the overwhelming majority of the members of this group believe that one of the ways to elevate the University is to secure public recognition of the school's original name and identity, that of California State (1862-1921, 1972-1974), the founding campus and namesake of the entire CSU system. As San Jose degrees are granted by the "Trustees of the California State University at San Jose" it seems logical that the University should publicly recognize this part of its identity, just as other system campuses like Sacramento State (CSUS) and Fresno State (CSUF) recognize their CSU identities. Students and graduates should have the freedom to choose between the school's city and state identities for purposes of honoring the University and promoting and celebrating their own academic achievements, and to have the identity of their choice publicly recognized by the University. Another principle of this group is that one of the ways to promote and elevate the University is to support Spartan athletics, and the attention it brings the school. This group is an independent association of CSU students, graduates and alumni from the San Jose campus, and is not officially affiliated with SJSU or the CSU.
