Bent Pin Quarterly, an online journal which publishes in Jan, April, July
and  October, is seeking  original unpublished submissions for its Spring and
Summer 2008 editions.  While a number of previously published works are included
in each issue, we are not seeking previously published work at this time.

WHAT CAN YOU SEND?  Your own ORIGINAL unpublished poetry, flash fiction,
essays, (creative nonfiction), one act plays, etc. (Etc can cover a lot of
ground).  You may mix genre in the same submission. Bent Pin Quarterly does not
assigned a genre label to the works it publishes.
We strongly suggest you visit our site at http://bentpinquarterly.net and to
get an idea what we publish.

      EMAIL SUBMISSIONS ONLY

Send your work as text in the body of your email message to
bentpinquarterly(at)yahoo.com (replace (at) with @).   “Attachments” will not be opened.

bio.. Include any pen name underwhich you wish to publish as well. No cover
letter is  required, but if you send one, it will be read.

Authors should note: BY SUBMITTING WORKS TO BENT PIN QUARTERLY FOR POSSIBLE
PUBLICATION, YOU ARE MAKING A DEFACTO LEGAL CLAIM THAT THE WORK IS YOUR OWN
ORIGINAL WORK AND THAT YOU ARE THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER OF THAT WORK.

      GUIDELINES BY CATEGORY

Poetry:   Free verse as well as form, and experimental efforts all may find a
place here; metaphor, assonance,  fresh use of words, and intelligent craft
are treasured.  Works verging on pornographic or, overly sentimental, or
overtly didactic are not.  Send three to five poems as text in the body of your
email to bentpinquarterly(at)yahoo.com (replace (at) with @). We do not open
      attachments.

Essay:  Well-crafted essays,  creative non-fiction on a variety of topics in
a variety of styles (personal, lyric, persuasive, etc) will be considered at
this time. Make sure your opening paragraphs invite and intrigue. Have
something to say. Send your submissions to bentpinquarterly(at)yahoo.com  (replace
(at) with @) as text in the body of your email.  We do not open attachments.

Flash Fiction: Flash fiction from 200 to 800 words in length will be
considered.  Pay particular attention to your lead paragraph and your ending.   Send,
as text in the body of your email, to bentpinquarterly(at)yahoo.com (replace
(at) with @). We do not open attachments.

One-act plays: Please format with clarity.

      POLICY ON SIMULTANEOUS SUBMISSIONS:

BENT PIN does not accept simultaneous submissions. In BENT PIN, short works
are paired and offered in juxtaposition. We simply don’t have the manpower to
rethink synergies and remake pages if a work is withdrawn. If you are one of
the many persons who ignores this request, please let us know as soon as
possible if you need to withdraw a work.

      OWNERSHIP:

      1) BY SUBMITTING WORKS TO BENT PIN FOR POSSIBLE PUBLICATION, YOU ARE MAKING A
DEFACTO LEGAL CLAIM THAT THE WORK IS YOUR OWN ORIGINAL WORK AND THAT YOU ARE
THE COPYRIGHT HOLDER OF THAT WORK.  Should that not be the case, we will hold
you responsible for any legal or financial repercussions stemming from our
inadvertent publication of a third party’s original work or property.

      2) Before, during and after, publication, ownership of your original material
remains with you. BENT PIN Quarterly takes the right to publish your accepted
work online in one issue, which will remain online in its archives.

      Finally:

BENT PIN is an online journal with no ads, no paying subscribers. It is not
funded by grants, nor underwritten by an educational organization.  No one will
make a cent off work published in BENT PIN, including its volunteer staff of
one. Since the journal has no income, we regret that it can not offer
compensation beyond a publication credit in an elegant format which friends and
      colleagues can view for free.
