Kelsey Street Press Announces 2013 Firsts!
An emerging writer's series featuring first books by women writers
Reading Period: August 1-August 31, 2013
Judge: Elizabeth Robinson
For more information:
The contest is open to women writers who have never published a full-length book of poetry. Our definition of “woman” is broad and includes transsexual, transgender, and genderqueer individuals. This year current and former students and close friends of Elizabeth Robinson may not submit manuscripts to the contest.
Manuscripts are reviewed anonymously. A Kelsey Street Press selection committee will screen all of the manuscripts from which five to ten finalists will be chosen for consideration by the judge. This year Elizabeth Robinson will select the winner.
The winning manuscript may be subject to revision as part of KSP's normal editorial process. The 2013 Firsts! winner will be published in 2014 in a run of 500 copies. KSP will promote the book in conjunction with the author. The book will be distributed through SPD, and available for sale online via KSP's website and Amazon.com.
-Manuscript must be typed, between 48 and 120 pages
-Title page with book title only
-Cover letter: Include in your cover letter ONLY:
-Poems previously published in periodicals or limited-edition chapbooks may be included in the manuscript, but the manuscript itself must not have been published as a book-length work exceeding 25 pages.
The reading fee is $18.
The winner will be awarded publication and 25 copies of the printed book.
Manuscripts must be received between August 1 and August 31, 2013, at midnight Pacific Time. The winner will be announced this winter, and the winning book will be published in 2014.
