Washburn University's English Department, College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a qualified candidate for tenure-track Assistant Professor position as Creative Nonfiction writer to join a vital writing program, with well-published colleagues in fiction and poetry, beginning August 2013 (pending funding availability).
Applicant must have MFA or PhD by date of hire (ABD considered for non-tenure track Lecturer with conversion to tenure-track Assistant Professor upon completion of Ph.D.) as well as publications in literary nonfiction. New hire will teach courses in Creative Nonfiction, Publication Lab, Reading for Writers, Creative Writing, and Composition. Candidates must demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship.
As part of a four-course per semester teaching load, the position comprises teaching undergraduate writing courses in the major and core curriculum and composition courses in the core curriculum. The candidate must demonstrate the ability to effectively teach a wide array of composition courses including developmental, first-year, and advanced composition. A commitment to undergraduate teaching is essential, as is the willingness to advise and mentor students. Washburn University has around 7,000 students, with 150+ English majors.
