      Associate Director – MFA

The MFA Program in Creative Writing at Chatham University seeks a dynamic
individual to serve as Associate Director with special focus on the Low
Residency program. Chatham’s innovative MFA program offers both a full and a
low-residency option; we seek to hire an Associate Director with experience in
distance learning to work with the Director to facilitate the continued growth
and vibrancy of the low-residency aspect of the program and contribute to
building a sense of community between the two programs.

      The successful candidate will have a terminal degree, MFA or Ph.D. (preferred);
a record of successful teaching and publishing, preferably in Creative Nonfiction
      or Fiction; a record of success in leadership or administrative positions;
significant experience within a low-residency MFA program, and a commitment to
maintaining and developing the already strongsense of community and collegiality
among colleagues and students in the program. An interest in Nature Writing,
Travel Writing or social outreach programs is a plus.

This is a 10-month renewable term faculty appointment, at the Assistant or
Associate Professor rank, with administrative and teachingresponsibilities,
      beginning August 1, 2013.

Teaching responsibilities include taking on a number of MFA mentees equivalent
to two courses in your genre; facilitating the 10-day low residency session once
a year; and teaching two courses for the full-residency program.

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. For full
consideration, candidates should apply by January 15, 2013. Review of
applicants will continue until the, position is filled, with interviews taking
place in Boston at the AWP conference in March.

Chatham’s ground-breaking MFA Program has received accolades from The Atlantic
Monthly (top five unique/innovative MFA program); Poets and Writers (one of nine
distinctive MFA programs); and most recently The Writer (one of four MFA
programs you should consider). Our focus on nature, international travel,
travel writing and social outreach makes it the premier MFA program for
nurturing students interested in place-based writing and innovative community
programs. But we are also unique in other ways: no other MFA program in the
United States offers the possibility of concentrations in travel writing,
teaching, publishing, or nature writing in addition to a primary genre focus
(poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction or children’s writing), and no other MFA
program offers the ability to have a dual-genre focus (in poetry and nonfiction,
or children’s writing and fiction, for example). We are also the only MFA
program in the United States to offer both an on-the-ground full residency
program and a low-residency program as well as the ability to easily move
      between the two programs.

Chatham University offers a competitive salary, an excellent benefits package,
including tuition remission for qualified personnel, and a generous retirement

Interested candidates should visit www.chatham.edu/careers and follow the
directions to complete the application process. Applicants should also include
a cover letter and resume in the application process.
