      ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR, ENGLISH

Chatham University, a thriving dynamic institution with three colleges -
Chatham College for Women and the co-educational College for Graduate Studies and
College for Continuing and Professional Studies - invites applications for an
assistant or associate level fiction writer with demonstrated commitment to
environmental writing or writing with a strong sense of place for our innovative
MFA program that focuses on nature, environmental and travel writing. The
appointment will be made at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level,
and will carry a five (Associate level) or six (Assistant level) course teaching
load, most of which will be taught in the MFA program.

      A nine-month renewable-term contract beginning August 2008 includes advising
graduate students, assisting the director with the MFA reading series, taking
a leadership role within the MFA program, directing theses and continued
creative work. A Ph.D., significant publications and teaching experience are
required. Some higher level administrative experience is a plus for a senior-level
      hire.

Chatham's MFA program was one of five unique/innovative MFA programs named in
The Atlantic Monthly's summer 2007 issue focusing on America's best graduate
      writing programs.

Chatham University offers a competitive salary, an excellent benefits
package, including tuition remission for qualified personnel, and a generous
      retirement plan.

Finalists will be interviewed at the AWP conference in January. Please send
letter of application, C.V., three letters of recommendation and a writing
sample by November 15, 2007 to: Chatham University, ATTN: Human Resources
Department, Job # 998, Woodland Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15232; e-mail:
      chathr(at)chatham.edu (replace (at) with @). Visit: www.chatham.edu
