      Marketing Assistant to the Executive Director

      Job Description (part-time)


      Learn what it takes to run an arts non-profit from the inside of a prominent Chicago literary organization; have a real impact as part of a two-person staff, working part-time with the Executive Director on both artistic and administrative tasks.

      Desired Skills

      talented in building online and off-line communities (including Facebook, Twitter, Hootsuite, and using various event posting websites)
      computer proficient (including excel, word, powerpoint or equivalents)

      advance knowledge of event planning and marketing
      good at taking ideas from concept to execution (including planning, decision-making, strategic thinking and finding new solutions)
      adept at juggling multiple tasks and deadlines, including anticipating and solving unexpected problems and keeping others informed on progress
      able to work independently and remotely – requires consistent computer, internet and cell phone access for regular check-in and progress updates
      interested in creative writing, theater/performance or both
      with excellent written and verbal skills – communicates clearly and with personality
      pays attention to details regardless of task
      positive disposition and interested in new ideas
      highly entrepreneurial, resourceful and flexible; energetic and willing to work hands-on
      interest and experience with small-staffed organizations, graphic design skills both a plus

      keep content updated on website, twitter, and facebook; incorporate new images and audio/visual content
      increase our presence on the web – create more interactivity on Guild website and more participation in relevant sites elsewhere
      keep press list updated: media, specific calendar listings, listserves, etc.; also identify new outlets and methods to spread word about Guild programming
      produce all marketing materials including press releases, psa's, flyers, etc. and oversee collateral material by design intern

      help manage program-related correspondence (e.g. communication to contest entrants and judges)
      help identify and make connections with writers/organizations as program participants; help generate program ideas
      be an ambassador and advocate for Guild in your daily life – talk it up wherever you go
      attend evening Guild events regularly in Chicago and board meetings (1-2 per month)
      help distribute marketing materials around Chicago

      "clean" donor databases

      help with fundraising mailings, data entry
      Hours and compensation: 15 hours/week at $10/hour, with opportunity for modest pay increase and promotion to Marketing Director title in future

      Start date: Mid-May preferred.
