Contest Judge: Valerie Nieman is the author of a recent novel, Blood Clay, as well as two earlier novels, a collection of short stories, Fidelities, and a poetry collection, Wake Wake Wake. Her fiction is upcoming inStorySouth and a new Main Street Rag anthology, and has appeared previously in the Kenyon Review, West Branch, and many other journals. Her poetry has appeared widely, in Poetry, the North Carolina Literary Review, Blackbird, and many other journals as well as several anthologies. She has received a creative writing fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts as well as grants of support for writing in North Carolina, West Virginia, and Kentucky, and prizes including two Elizabeth Simpson Smith awards in fiction and the Greg Grummer Prize in poetry. She was the winner of the inaugural Byron Herbert Reece Poetry Prize. Nieman graduated from West Virginia University and holds an MFA from Queens University of Charlotte. A longtime newspaper reporter and editor, she now teaches writing at North Carolina A&T State University and serves as poetry editor ofPrime Number magazine.

Entry fees must be paid through PayPal and received at the same time as each submission. If submissions are submitted without entry fees, the submission will not be judged.
