short story contest for young writers in New Mexico
- Call for Short Stories by Young Authors Ages 14-19 in New Mexico
The finalists will compete for the four cash prizes to be awarded: $500
to the winner, $250 for the runner up, and $125 for the two honorable
mentions. The four prize-winning stories will be read at the 2007 Santa
Fe Short Story Festival by professional actors. Finalists (the four
authors whose work is selected for a prize) may request a travel
allowance if they live 100 miles or more from Santa Fe. The contest is
open to all 14-19 year-olds residing in New Mexico.
Guidelines for Submissions:
Original short stories on any subject of up to 2000 words in length
will be considered. (Essays and works of creative non-fiction and
memoirs are not eligible.)
Submit four copies, double spaced, one side of the page only, starting
with the title half way down the first page.
Do not include your name anywhere on the manuscript. Instead, fill out
and return the contestant's statement/submission form with your entry.
One story per contestant.
Please do not send your only copies as they will not be returned.
Only entries postmarked by August 3, 2007 will be considered.
Postcards acknowledging receipt will be sent to all those whose stories
meet the guidelines.
The Festival retains non-exclusive rights to publish, in print or
electronic form, the four stories selected for the final competition.
The Festival offers young writers a unique opportunity for recognition
and exposure of their work in the Festival setting. Please make the most
