poetry chapbook contest for African-American poets extends deadline
- The deadline for the 2011 Integral Music Chapbook Competition has been
extended to April 15, 2011. The judge will be Thomas Sayers Ellis.
The Integral Music Chapbook Competition recognizes innovative work by
African Americans that pushes against boundaries through musicality and
word play. We encourage risk-takers to submit their work to this
The winner of the 2010 Integral Music Chapbook Competition is Myron
Michael of Oakland, CA for Scatter Plot. His chapbook is available
through the Willow Books website, www.WillowLit.com. The 2011 Winner
will be announced in late April. The winning chapbook will be perfect
bound and the winner will receive $100, 25 copies and have a feature
page on the Willow Books site. Honorable Mentions will also be featured
on the Willow site.
Submissions should have a cover page that includes the title, author’s
name, contact information (address, phone number and email). Author’s
name should not appear anywhere else in the manuscript. Submissions
must not exceed 28 pages and should contain only one poem per page in
12pt.Times New Roman.
There is a $15 reading fee for each manuscript submitted, which is
nonrefundable. Multiple submissions are accepted, but each must have
its own $15 reading fee included. Manuscripts submitted during this
open reading period may not be revised nor resubmitted. The judge
reserves the right to not select a winner.
