Taylor University is seeking applications and nominations of distinguished candidates to fill a tenure-track position with an emphasis in Creative Writing in the English Department. The successful applicant will assume faculty responsibilities in August, 2011 pending final budget approval. Rank and salary are dependent upon qualifications and experience. PhD, ABD, or MFA in creative writing is required, ideally with an emphasis in poetry. A publication record in poetry is strongly preferred; expertise in other genres, including fiction, creative nonfiction, and drama or screenwriting, may also be considered. Proven ability to teach writing at the undergraduate level is important. Candidates must be committed to the educational mission and evangelical Christian orientation of the University.
The appointee will teach multi-genre creative writing courses, upper-division poetry workshops, general education literature courses, and expository writing. Student advising, individual senior project supervision, and customary faculty and committee assignments will also be expected.
The English Department at Taylor consists of nine full-time faculty members and offers Bachelor of Arts concentrations in either Literature or Creative Writing and a Bachelor of Science in English Secondary Education with teaching certification. Approximately 60 majors and 20 minors are currently enrolled in these programs. All department members teach courses designed to meet Taylor University’s general education requirements in literature and writing.
Taylor University, a four-year liberal arts college holding to a strong evangelical Christian position, is located in Upland, Indiana, a community on Indiana Highway 22 five miles east of Interstate 69, fifty miles south of Fort Wayne and sixty miles north of Indianapolis.
