      SUBMISSIONS
      The VCU Cabell First Novelist Award recognizes a rising new talent in the literary world whose debut novel was successfully published in the American market. We welcome nominations from MFA programs nationwide as well as from publishers, editors, agents, and writers.
      Eligibility:

      Debut novel whose first publication is in the American market between January 1, 2009 and December 31, 2009.

      No self-published work, please.

      Translations are acceptable if the work has not been previously published.

      Active VCU faculty, students, and co-sponsors of the Award and their immediate families are ineligible.

      The Award:



      In accepting the Award, the author agrees to travel to Richmond, Virginia in Fall 2010 to participate in the VCU Cabell First Novelist Festival. The author receives a $5000 prize, and travel expenses to Richmond. In addition, travel and accommodations are provided for the writer's agent and editor, as well as professional honoraria for participating in the Festival.


      Submission Guidelines:

      The deadline for the 2010 VCU Cabell First Novelist Award is September 15 for books published January through June 2009. For books published July through December 2009, the deadline is January 15, 2010.
