Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, the nation's oldest technological institute and a top-ranked private research university, seeks an experienced speechwriter to serve as the Executive Speechwriter to President Shirley Ann Jackson, Ph.D.
In her 10 years as Rensselaer's 18th President, Dr. Jackson has transformed Rensselaer through her leadership and vision. During her tenure, the Institute has consistently improved its ranking among the top 50 national universities and was named one of the "New Ivies" by Newsweek Magazine. In recognition of her many accomplishments, Dr. Jackson was recently awarded the Vannevar Bush Award for "a lifetime of achievements in scientific research, education and senior statesman-like contributions to public policy."
The Executive Speechwriter to the President will work as part of a team to support a broad range of needs for presidential communications, including speech writing, research of current trends in science and education policy, preparation of background material for speaking engagements, and advance work. In addition, the incumbent will schedule freelance writers, manage work assignments and edit work for appropriate voice, fact-check, and overall quality.
The incumbent will travel as needed to work with the president at venue on last minute changes. The ideal candidate will be a strong collaborator, a writer who is experienced in capturing the voice and thought process of her subject, and possess knowledge of current issues in higher education and research. Applicants must possess a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of five (5) years of directly related and progressively responsible experience.
