poetry chapbook contest: City Lit Project
CityLit Project announces the First Annual Clarinda Harriss Poetry Prize and Chapbook
Competition. The Prize is named in honor of Clarinda Harriss, eminent Baltimore poet,
publisher, and professor of English at Towson University. Send $15 entry fee, SASE for
notification of winner, and manuscript of 16 to 25 pages of poetry with table of
contents, acknowledgments, and two coversheets (one with title only) to Harriss Prize,
c/o CityLit Project, 120 S. Curley Street, Baltimore, MD 21224. All submissions must
be postmarked before October 1, 2009. Winner receives publication by CityLit Press,
$100, and 25 copies. Michael Salcman will judge. Complete guidelines at
Entrants should be previously unpublished in book form. Please include on separate
pages: (1) coversheet listing poet’s name, collection’s title, and poet’s mailing address,
contact phone number, and e-mail address; (2) an acknowledgments page that lists
poems previously published in periodicals, anthologies, journals, etc.; and (3) one-
paragraph bio (all will be removed before final judging).
Manuscripts should be typed (and available in electronic format) and paginated. Paper
clip all material together (no staples). A separate title page should include title of0
collection only (to be forwarded to the final judge).
FINALIST MANUSCRIPTS WILL BE JUDGED ANONYMOUSLY.
Except for coversheet and bio, the entrant’s name should not appear anywhere on the
manuscript. Manuscripts will be recycled; please do not send your original or only
SASE(s): Include a self-addressed stamped postcard to review an announcement of the
prize winner. Winner will be announced in January 2010.

Prize Winner: The winner of the Clarinda Harriss Poetry Prize receives publication by
CityLit Press, $100, and 25 copies. Winner will be notified in January 2010, with the
winning chapbook published in Spring 2010.
