Three writing contests are sponsored annually by New England Writers, an
organization that was founded by Frank Anthony in 1986. The Free Verse Contest has
Robert Penn Warren Awards of $300, $200 and $100. The Short Fiction Contest
has a Marjory Bartlett Sanger Award of $300. The First Creative Nonfiction
(Essay) Contest has a Frank Anthony Award of $200. The award winners of poetry,
fiction and nonfiction, along with 35 judge-selected poems, will be published in
The Anthology of New England Writers 2008——its 20th annual issue.
By the postmark date of June 15, send three poems (10 to 30 lines) and/or one
fiction or nonfiction (1,000 words). The entry fee is only $5 for 3 poems or
1 fiction/nonfiction——multiple entries accepted. Three entries will include
the anthology. Send your writing, a 3x5 card with your name, address and
titles, and the entry fee to New England Writers Contests, Susan Anthony, Director,
PO Box 5, Windsor, VT 05089.
The winners will be announced at the 19th annual New England Writers
Conference, Saturday, July 21, featuring a writer’’s panel with authors, editors and
creative writing teachers. The “affordable” conference will be held from 1 to
