Oklahoma Writing @ Sugar Mule Call for Submissions

Announcing a Special Issue of Sugar Mule
      www.SugarMule.com
Writing Oklahoma into the 21st Century

We invite all writers currently living in Oklahoma to submit to this
special issue of Sugar Mule; all genres are solicited. Only writers who
are current residents of Oklahoma may submit. While the editor does not
require that Oklahoma is topic or theme of the writing (the editor
wishes to encourage experimental submissions), she will admit to a bias
for stories, poems, and essays that capture the near-ineffable oddness
and beauty and pain of living in the State. All work submitted will be
      considered for the Sugar Mule Oklahoma Special Edition (February 2009);
Mongrel Empire Press, in partnership with Sugar Mule, is also planning
an expanded, print edition and all submissions will be considered for
      the print edition as well.

      SEND:
three to five poems (no more than 15 pages)
up to 15 pages of prose, fiction and/or non-fiction
(page counts are based on 12 point Times New Roman, double-spaced)

      SUBMISSION DEADLINE: 1 NOVEMBER 2009
PLEASE READ AND FOLLOW ALL SUBMISSION DETAILS BELOW
SUBMISSIONS THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE GUIDELINES WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

      SUBMISSION DETAILS/GUIDELINES:
Sugar Mule does not pay for accepted work(s) at this time.
      We
wish had grant or advertising money to pay for such
      --we are
always exploring possibilities so check back if that is a concern for
      you.

Sugar Mule wishes to use only new material
      not seen before
      elsewhere on the intern
      et.

As to rights, you retain all rights to your work; we retain
      none.

Otherwise, we welcome submissions of poetry, fiction,
      and all genres of non-fiction--
      however search engine restrictions
      force SM
to put certain words in this form: "f---" for example.

Submit ONLY VIA EMAIL with the actual submission included as an
email file attachment. You MUST write "SUGAR MULE OK ISSUE SUBMISSION"
IN THE SUBJECT HEADER. Send submissions to the Oklahoma Special Issue
editor, Jeanetta Calhoun Mish at tonguetiedwoman AT gmail DOT com.

DO NOT send submissions for the Oklahoma Writing Issue to the Sugar
      Mule main
      address.

In your file attachment be SURE to include YOUR
      NAME and EMAIL ADDRESS
on every page of the attached file

send files in any version of
      an MS Word, iWork
Pages, rtf, ascii, html or .txt file to: tonguetiedwoman AT gmail DOT
      com.

If accepted you will be required to bracket any italicized or bolded
      words
in your work with the HTML marks <i> and </i>; and <b> and
      </b>,
respectively--but you can submit work without doing that.

NOTE: if your poetry uses irregular lines that are horizontally spaced
      like:
      the rain
                                in Spain

DO NOT send them with the spacing dependent on the word-processing
MARGIN RIGHT command or TABS; REPLACE all such with spacing based on the
      space bar;

--the reason is that it is difficult to reproduce such spacing in HTML
      code for the20website
unless it is done with the space bar.

For the Oklahoma Special Issue, email submissions to Jeanetta Calhoun
      Mish:
      <tonguetiedwoman(at)gmail.com> (replace (at) with @).

IF YOUR WORK IS CHOSEN WE WILL REQUEST A VERY SHORT BIO
