- Mount Vernon Nazarene University is seeking to hire a qualified instructional faculty member for creative writing and literature. This position will require working primarily on the main campus in Mount Vernon. Travel to other campuses may be necessary. The position is contingent upon budget funding by the University's Board of Trustees.

Pay Status: Full-time 9-month faculty position
Responsibilities include: Teaching writing courses as assigned (ENG1043 Freshman Expository Writing and/or ENG1053 Research Writing); Teaching creative writing and/or literature courses; Possibly directing English education program in conjunction with faculty from the School of Education and Professional Studies; Advising students as assigned; Performing additional instructional or administrative assignments based on departmental needs and individual qualifications; Supporting departmental efforts for continued improvement of programs; and Serving the University through committee participation. The above statements describe the general nature and level of work to be performed by an individual assigned to this position. This is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities and duties required of the position.
Job RequirementsQualifications needed: Evangelical Christian confess
ion of faith and experience required, involvement in the Church of the Nazarene preferred; MFA or Ph.D. in creative writing or literature; Experience in English education desirable; History of publication in creative writing preferred; Previous teaching experience in higher education; Commitment to quality classroom instruction; Strong individual and group communication skills; Commitment to the University s Christian faith and lifestyle requirements; Understanding and appreciation of the Wesleyan theological heritage; and Desire to help students succeed in the university setting.
