      Summary:  Antioch University Santa Barbara is seeking a full-time Chair for the MFA in 


      Creative Writing Program. The Chair of the MFA Program in Creative Writing for Visual 


      Media is responsible for administering all aspects of the Program, including hiring and 


      supervision of program faculty, leading program faculty and student recruitment and 


      retention efforts, and developing a strategy for a low residency on-line program. As a 


      member of the core faculty, the Chair also has teaching, advising, and mentoring duties in 


      the MFA Program as well as the usual responsibilities of all core faculty, and works with 


      the Chair of the BA Program to advise creative writing students. The Chair is expected to 


      be professionally active in his/her field with a substantial publishing record and/or portfolio 


      of creative work. The position reports to the Dean of Academic Affairs.  


       


      Job Specifications: 


       


      • Faculty recruitment, training and hiring, and evaluation;  


      • Planning, administration and coordination of the Residencies and Project Period 


      activities including orientations, residency calendar and schedule;   


      • Direction of and participation in recruitment activities on the part of Adm
      issions 


      personnel, faculty, and alumni;  


      • Oversight of design and placement of advertising;   


      • Management of student and mentor relations;  


      • Curricular and academic planning and management for the program;  


      • Oversight over and planning of the academic and technical aspects of on-line 


      component of the program. 


      • Development of and responsibility for the management of the program budget. 


      • Co-supervision (with the Academic Dean) of the MFA Program Coordinator and 


      workstudy personnel assigned to the program office;  


      • Staffing and chairing of the MFA Team (interdepartmental work group). 


       


      UNIVERSITY RESPONSIBLITIES:  The Chair of the MFA Program in Creative Writing for 


      Visual Media is a member of campus administrative committees, among them AcWorks, 


      CCSB, the budget advisory committee, and search committees as required.

      QUALIFICATIONS: The Chair of the MFA Program in Creative Writing must hold a 


      graduate degree from an accredited college or university, preferably an MFA or Ph.D. in 


      the Creative Writing or closely related field.  The chair must have a significant record of 


      publication and/or professional portfolio with experience in the teaching of creative writing, 


      preferably linked to visual media.  It is highly desirable that the chair have had experience 


      in
      a low-residency creative writing program and have some experience in on-line or 


      distance education.  Also desirable is experience in working with adult students and a 


      diverse faculty and student body.     


        


      Hours of Employment: This is a full-time position.
