A CONTEST FOR MYSTERY / SUSPENSE / THRILLER NOVEL
Deadline for contest entries is: May 31, 2008. The following rules must be followed Exactly:
Send the first 3 chapters or 50 pages, plus a one-page synopsis of an unpublished novel.
The complete novel must be not less than 55,000 words nor more than 80,000 words.
Use your computer word counter. Do not use an estimate.
Every page must have a header in the upper left-hand corner consisting of
the author’s name / the title of the novel. For example: Smith/My Story.
Pages must be numbered in the upper right-hand corner (numeral only).
All material must be typed, double-spaced. Use 12 point Times New Roman typeface.
No women’s issues, romances, mainstream, westerns, or historical novels accepted.
Mysteries, suspense novels or thrillers are welcomed. List Genre with word count.
No extreme violence; include only what is pertinent to the story.
Sexual passages as necessary to the story can be included. No gratuitous explicit sex.
A coversheet with complete contact information:
Name, Address, Telephone Number, Email Address.
A check or money order for $5 registration fee made out to: Fireside Publications.
No materials will be returned, so DO NOT send an SASE for its return.
All material NOT published will be destroyed.
Do NOT request a signature for delivery of your material.
Writers who qualify for the second round will be asked to submit a complete manuscript and a brief
(one paragraph per chapter) chapter-by-chapter outline.
Writers who qualify for this round will also be asked to submit a marketing plan.
Fireside Publications will market the book aggressively, but will expect the author to assist
to the best of his or her ability.
The final winner will be asked to submit a read/write disk (CD) containing their work
in Microsoft Word.
Contest winner will be announced on our website by the end of JULY, 2008.
Winning novel will be published by the Fireside Publishing Company of Florida.
Winner will receive a standard book publishing contract from Fireside Publishing Company and
a $100 advance against royalties.
NOTE: If no acceptable winner is found among the submissions, Fireside Publications retains the right to
extend the contest for three additional months, as necessary.
